K5 Million of First Quarter Grants Delivered to Livingstone Schools

When the New Dawn government reintroduced free education in Zambia, there were concerns over the schools’ ability to maintain their operations while increasing class sizes.

Those concerns have been allayed because school grants have been released in a timely manner. Already, all 56 schools in Livingstone have received their 2025 first-quarter allocation, which amounts to over 5 million Kwacha.

Livingstone District Education Board Secretary Billy Milimo told ZNBC, “We can confirm that as a district, all of the money has already hit our accounts for schools, and the total amount for our 56 schools, both primary and secondary, is 5,254,938 Kwacha.”

Furthermore, the Government has already started to distribute food rations to feed learners in the district.

“All our public schools, community schools and grant-funded schools have received maize, cooking oil, salt and beans,” added Milimo.

Adam Simunchembu, Head Teacher at Christ the King School, told ZNBC the grants have provided a relief to the school: “Now it is much easier to be in the class as teachers and to teach.”
