Livingstone set to host new Cancer Hospital

Health Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA says Government will soon launch a cancer hospital, at the Livingstone University Teaching Hospital.

Dr. MUCHIMA says cancer cases in Southern Province have continued to be a concern for the government and hence the decision to put up a cancer hospital.

He says the site for the cancer hospital within the teaching hospital premises has already been identified, and that construction will soon begin, as his ministry is already in talks with the Ministry of Finance.

The Minister disclosed this when he toured selected health facilities in Livingstone, accompanied by partners from the Global Fund, a global movement investing in the Zambian health sector.

And Global Fund Country Coordinator, CHRISTOPHER CHIKATULA said the Fund invested more than three hundred million dollars in the fight against HIV, TB, Malaria as well as strengthening the country’s health system in 2024.

Mr. CHIKATULA also commended the government for ensuring that a number of health facilities produce oxygen.

Meanwhile, Southern Province Health Director CALLISTUS KAAYUNGA disclosed that the availability of drugs and commodities in health facilities in the province stands above ninety-five percent.
