Chambeshi Water Supply Intensifies Efforts to Ensure Safe Drinking Water and Combat Cholera in Nakonde District

Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company has increased its efforts to guarantee the availability of clean and safe drinking water to the residents of Nakonde District following recent reports of cholera outbreaks in the area.

Acting Managing Director, Jose Chamanika, outlined several initiatives being implemented to strengthen water security in the region. The Gabon area has received a water bowser to supply clean water to affected residents, helping to enhance livelihoods and reduce the impact of the ongoing drought.

In response to the cholera outbreak, the company is conducting hyper-chlorination of wells in contaminated areas to ensure the water is safe for consumption. Chamanika also hihglighted that the company has enhanced its water quality monitoring efforts and is swifty addressing reports of leaks or faults in the water network to prevent further contamination.

“Our team is working tirelessly to combat the spread of cholera by ensuring access to safe drinking water. We have deployed a water bowser to supply clean water, and hyper-chlorination of wells is ongoing in the affected areas to make water safe for consumption,” Chamanika said.

Additionally, the company is working with local authorities and community leaders to educate and raise awareness on hydergine and sanitation practices, aiming to prevent the spread of cholera within the community.

“Prevention starts with awareness, and we urge the public to use treated water, practice proper hygiene, and report any water supply or quality issues to our customer service team,” Chamanika added.

Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company’s approach combines immediate actions for resilience building and disease mitigation with long-term strategies that focus on strengthening water systems and empowering communities to prevent future outbreaks.
