First Lady Mutinta Hichilema Spreads Hope with Heartfelt Donations to Orphanages

First Lady Mutinta Hichilema has donated assorted supplies to two orphanages in Lusaka. Her generous gesture reflects not only compassion but also a deep commitment to uplifting and empowering young, vulnerable lives.

The Mothers Without Borders organisation, located in Osaka West, provides shelter, education, healthcare, and emotional support to over 800 vulnerable children, ensuring they grow up in a safe and loving environment. Many of the children that are housed are coming from the Department of Social Welfare with different conditions, ranging from sexually abused children, chronic ill conditions and others coming from mentally disturbed mothers. Recognising their invaluable work, the First Lady donated 67 cases of cooking oil, 70 cases of sugar and 4,000 storybooks in partnership with the Merc Foundation.

Upon receiving the donation, Mothers Without Borders Country Director Josephine Daka expressed heartfelt gratitude, highlighting the significance of the First Lady’s support. “This act of kindness is not just about the donation but a sign of compassion, solidarity and commitment to the well-being of our community. Thank you for bringing hope, comfort and a reminder to us that we are not alone - especially coming from the First Office of First Lady.”

The second donation was made to Kasisi Children's Home, which cares for about 250 children. It included 35 mattresses, 100 cases of cooking oil, and 100 cases of sugar.

Sister in Charge Mariola Mierzejewska expressed deep appreciation for the First Lady’s generosity, recognising her genuine compassion for the children. “We are very grateful not only for these things but for her love and concern. We know very well that she has a very good heart.”

Both orphanages emphasised that while the donations will greatly assist in meeting the children’s physical needs, it is the act of kindness and love behind them that holds the most meaning. The First Lady’s gesture reaffirms that these children are seen, valued and supported.

Through her continued dedication to social welfare, Mutinta Hichilema is inspiring hope and strengthening communities, ensuring that no child is left behind.
