Flood Victim Praises President Hichilema for Timely Assistance
Flood victims in Lusaka’s Chaisa area of Mandevu constituency have expressed gratitude to the government for providing swift relief in the wake of devastating floods. Among the beneficiaries, Getrude Musonda, a single mother of four, shared her appreciation after receiving rental assistance that enabled her to relocate and replace essential household items.
Musonda recounted to ZNBC News Today how the floods swept through her home, leaving destruction in their wake. With government support, she has now moved to a safer residence and managed to purchase necessities such as a mattress and furniture. She praised President Hakainde Hichilema for his hands-on approach, noting that she had never before seen a president personally visit and sympathise with flood victims. “This is the government we want. I have never witnessed a president leave State House to come and sympathise with flood victims. We are behind him,” she said.
Her sentiments reflect the broader appreciation from affected residents, who have been encouraged by the government’s commitment to disaster response. The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) released one million Kwacha in rental relief funds to assist displaced families in securing alternative housing.
The government’s proactive approach has reassured victims that they are not alone in their struggles, reinforcing confidence in Hichilema’s leadership and governance.
