NDC Threaten to Sue Police Over Permits

The Chishimba Kambwili led National Democratic Congress party has threatened to sue the Chingola police for allegedly being denied a permit to hold gatherings on the Copperbelt.

Acting Party spokesperson Misheck Moyo ha said that the decision to deny the party an opportunity to hold a meeting in Chingola is nothing but utterly absurd.

Moyo, a former ZNBC journalist said police have continued denying the NDC permits on several occasions forcing the party to see legal redress.

“Even in instances where the NDC is taking part in elections, police have always stopped us from interacting with the general public. The NDC is a registered political grouping and we see no reason why authorities should not allow us hold public meetings,” Moyo said.

He said in the last eleven months, police on the Copperbelt alone have only allowed his party to hold two public meetings being in Ndola and Mufulira Districts.

“As NDC, we demand for the immediate de-politicization of the police service. The police command should start making decisions that are in the interest of the general populace. The police command should for once act professionally and independently,”

Moyo said the party will be forced to take legal action if the police continue to muzzle the opposition.
