MISA Condemns Treatment of Journalists During Chilanga By-Election

The Media Institute of Southern Africa has expressed disappointment over the Chilanga By-Elections. MISA has stated that journalists were subject to acts of violence and intimidation in the course of their work covering the vote.

In particular, MISA Zambia Vice Chairperson Hyde Haguta has stated that there were numerous reports of journalists’ lives being threatened by political part supporters, a traditional leader and the Office of the President.

MISA specifically pointed out that Luapula Community Radio has been receiving demands for copies of its programmes by members of President Lungu’s office. In addition Muvi TV journalist Oscar Phiri was harassed in Mwense by PF party supporters.
