Following a spate of Southern African leaders cracking down on social media and in Uganda’s case taxing its citizens to use apps like WhatsApp and Facebook, the PF today confirmed that they would not be introducing similar policy.

Transport and Communication Minister Brian Mushimba released a ministerial statement today confirming this.

He continued to state that the PF recognises that the communication sector is making a positive contribution to the nation’s economic development from both the private and public sector investing on the electronic ticket.

Furthermore he has promised the government will not infringe on the rights of people, individuals, public and private sector by attacking social platforms.

However the Minister reasserted that those abusing social media will face the full wrath of the law.
