SADC Recognises Tshisekedi As President-Elect

Following a turbulent election and results period fraught with allegations of voter rigging, the Southern African Development Community has issued a formal statement congratulating the DRC’s new President Elect Felix Tshisekedi.

 

The SADC Chairman President Geingob of Namibia congratulated the people of DRC and political stakeholders for ‘conducting elections in a peaceful manner,’ a statement many will contradict.

 

He went on to urge the Congolese people to accept the outcome and solidify their democracy by maintain a peaceful environment now Tshisekedi has been confirmed winner.

 

The recognition and congratulations of Mr Tshisekedi as President-Elect comes despite calls by the losing candidate Martin Fayulu to regional bodies to reject the the court ruling that confirmed the election of his opponent.

 

Mr Fayulu had called upon SADC, IGLR and the African Union to reject the Ruling as it might be a basis of an illegal government.
