Cross-Party Support for UPND’s Motion to End Political Violence

Yesterday all political parties resolved to work together in their effort to end political violence which has becoming increasingly comment in recent months.

Chief among the resolutions reached was an agreement to respect each other’s rights and allow the police to work independently.

Acting Minister of Justice Stephen Kampyongo said it was the government’s responsibility to provide leadership for the people and called on the spirit of unity and togetherness and that parties should be agnostic in resolving this issue.

The political parties made the call yesterday after Choma Central UPND Member of Parliament Cornelious Mweetwa moved a private members motion urging the government to take practical measures to curb electoral violence which was seconded by Zambezi East MP Brian Kambita.

He said those governing the country have failed to take appropriate action fairly and to apply the laws to all the citizens.
