Government Urges ZAMPOST Workers To Go Back to Work

Zampost workers have been striking for two months due to lack of pay, and at present show no signs of going back to work.

However, the National Union for Communication Workers has urged Zampost workers to go back to following a commitment from the government that they will collect the K20 million owed to them by partners, in order to pay their salaries.

Union General Secretary Richard Mulenga said there was no need to continue with the protests especially as the government has made a commitment to settle six months’ salary arrears.

Transport and Communications Minister Brian Mushimba recently said he is engaging the Ministry of Finance over the release of 50 million Kwacha to recapitalise Zampost.

However, for many Zampost workers this ‘commitment’ will not be enough to dispel their complete lack of trust in the government.
