Police Officer shoots himself dead with an AK 47 rifle

A 34 year old Police officer of Namwala Police Station in the Southern Province has tragically committed suicide. 

A Zambian Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga said Constable Elzier Lubinda shot himself with an AK 47 rifle and died immediately. 

Constable Lubinda, who was on duty at the time, was found lying down facing upwards with the firearm on his chest. The incident occurred around 01.30 hours today. Police have since opened an inquiry into the suicide. 

The incident comes just a week after another police officer, Jackson Mwanza committed suicide in Lusaka after he shot four people, killing two.
