Migrant boat missing off Tunisia

A boat carrying 86 migrants has capsized off the coast of Tunisia, with 82 people reported to be missing.

A Tunisian fisherman came across the sinking boat, nine miles from the town of Zarzis off the coast of Tunisia, late on Wednesday. They were able to pull four men from the vessel but there was no trace of the other passengers. One of the survivors, a man from the Ivory Coast, has reportedly since died overnight in hospital, reports say.

Those on board are thought to have been migrants who departed from the Libyan city of Zuwara.

Libya, is currently the main departure point for migrants hoping to reach Europe. The country has been torn by violence and division since long-time ruler Muammar Gaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011.

The ill-fated journey comes hours after an airstrike on a Libyan detention centre killed at least 44 migrants - wounding more than 130 others.
