UPND Question’s Lungu’s Silence During ECZ Meeting

UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka has questioned why President Lungu remained silent during Saturday’s Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Presidential Summit.

Mr Katuka has asked why the president, along with his party’s secretary general Davies Mwila, would remain mute for the entire two-hour session when there were many pressing issues on the table relating to the country’s electoral system.

The UPND secretary insinuated that the PF was in fact already well represented by officials form the ECZ, as well as delegates from surrogate political parties.

“A meeting of this magnitude, attended by the Head of State has not yielded anything as it was a usual talking show. Worse still, the entire Republican President and his entourage, came for this meeting; sitting there for more than two hours and just walked out without saying a single word,” Katuka criticised.

He concluded that Mr Lungu’s silence, as well as his customary lateness, displayed the government’s intention to belittle this important stakeholder meeting.

He accused the head of state of exhibiting irresponsible leadership, which confirms the president’s lack of commitment to holding free and fair elections in 2021.
