Kambwili Sentenced To Two Years In Prison
National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili has been sentenced to two years in prison with hard labour after a Lusaka magistrate found him guilty of forgery and uttering a false document.
Lusaka principal resident magistrate David Sumusamba sentenced him to 12 months for forgery and another 12 months for the false document. However, Kambwili will serve the sentences concurrently, meaning he will only spend a total of one year in prison.
The opposition leader was acquitted on a further charge of giving false information to a public officer due to insufficient evidence.
The case began in 2018 and relates to the registration of Kamwili’s Mwamona Engineering Company. According to a witness for the defence, the person responsible for registering the company attached the national registration card number belonging to Kambwili’s wife, Sampa, to the document bearing Mr Kambwili’s name.
Court was adjourned on 21st September 2020 after magistrate Simusamba denied Kambwili’s lawyers more time to continue their defence.
