Kambwili Granted K100,000 Bail
National Democratic Congress leader Chishimba Kambwili has been granted bail set at K100,000 in cash.
Lusaka magistrate David Simusamba also ordered that Kambwili provide two working sureties from reputable organisations who will also have to pay K100,000 each.
The opposition leader was convicted on fraud charges on 14th October and has since been incarcerated at Kamwala Remand Prison. However, last week his lawyers successfully lodged an appeal and petitioned the court for bail.
Kambwili was convicted on charges of forgery and uttering a false document in relation to the registration of the Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services company. His lawyers claim justice Simusamba ignored evidence during the proceedings and was acting on a personal vendetta against Kambwili.
Kambwili’s supporters, including MMD leader Nevers Mumba, have dismissed the charges against him as political persecution by the PF government.
