Youth Alliance Calls On Young People To Register To Vote
The Youth Alliance for Development (YAD) has called on young Zambians to make sure they register to vote when registration opens on November 9th.
“I’m urging all the youths o go out there and participate in this duty which each and every Zambian who is at the rightful age must participate,” said YAD executive director Ziwase Mulenga.
Ms Mulenga warned against voter apathy, reminding youth people that they are are the leaders of tomorrow and set the tone for the future of Zambia.
The statement comes as the ECZ is preparing to push back the registration period start date from October 28th to November 9th. It will now end on December 12th as opposed to November 30th.
Ms Mulenga has praised the government for extending the registration period, saying that “many youths will now register and participate in the governance process”.
However, many others remain critical of the registration process, saying it is still too small a window to register some nine million Zambian voters.
“The six million plus voters were registered over a period of years…What makes you think that you will register every qualified Zambian within 30 days?” The musician Pilato is quoted as saying.
