PF Appoint Lungu’s Daughter As Chawama Chair

The Patriotic Front in Lusaka Province have appointed President Lungu’s daughter - Tasila Lungu Mwansa - as the party’s chairperson for Chawama constituency.

Mrs Mwansa, who is a councillor for Nkholoma ward, will be taking over from Joseph Shanzi, aka Joe Katete, who died last week after an illness.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Lusaka on Friday, Mrs Mwansa said she would continue the good work of her predecessor in growing and uniting the PF in Chawama.

However, she also warned party members against indiscipline and lawlessness, which she said had the potential to tarnish the PF’s image.

“Our members from Chawama let us love each other, let’s not allow indiscipline and lawlessness in the party, as Chairperson I will not allow it. We are not a violent political party. Let us also not allow the opposition to use the few people to destroy Chawama today,” she said.

The statement harks back to numerous instances of PF violence in recent weeks, including the attack on a UPND vehicle in Kasama last month and the petrol-bombing of UPND trustee Peter Kalyata’s house in Matero.

Mrs Mwansa has said her first task as constituency chair will be to ensure party members get National Registration Cards (NRCs) and register to vote.

Following on from Mrs Mwansa’s speech, PF Lusaka Province Chairman Paul Moonga praised her for following in her father’s footsteps, pointing out that Chawama was the same constituency that Edgar Lungu served in before becoming president.

Nevertheless he emphasised that the party chose Mrs Mwansa as constituency chair because of her experience as a local councillor and not because of her family background.
