PF Suspends Kitwe Mayor Kang’ombe

The Patriotic Front has suspended Kitwe City Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe from the party with immediate effect.

In a letter from PF district chairman Everisto Chilufya, the party reprimands Mayor Kang’ombe for openly campaigning for parliament in Kamfinsa constituency, despite the fact that the PF already has an elected MP in the area.

Mayor Kang’ombe is also accused of “insubordination and lack of respect” for organising a press briefing at Sherburne lodge last Sunday when Vice President Wina was on an unrelated official visit to Kitwe.

At the press conference Mr Kang’ombe denied rumours that he was in fact working for the opposition NDC party, saying it was no bad thing to aspire to higher office.

“To express an ambition, to run for higher political office cannot be the basis upon which detractors must be making assertions that we are politically misaligned. When the right time comes, we shall individually exercise our rights to aspire for higher office and that will be within the PF, and properly guided by the party constitution and the wisdom of the party elders,” he said.

Kang’ombe is suspended from party activities until further notice and his case has been forwarded to the PF central committee for further disciplinary action.
