Lungu Congratulates President-Elect Biden
Zambian President Edgar Lungu has congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on his recent election victory to become the 46th president of the United States.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Zambia, as well as on my own behalf, I wish to convey our heartfelt congratulations on your election as President of the United States of America,” President Lungu said.
Mr Lungu described Mr Biden’s election as a demonstration of the American people’s desire for greater unity and socio-economic development.
The Zambian leader highlighted that America has been an invaluable ally in supporting Zambia’s economic development and welfare through initiatives like the Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
“While I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency in the future strengthening of our bilateral relations, please accept, my best wishes for your personal good health as well as success in discharging the functions of your high office,” Mr Lungu concluded.
Mr Biden has been declared president-elect of the United States following a drawn out election process, which is still ongoing in several states.
President Trump has yet to acknowledge Mr Biden’s victory, citing unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud. He has not indicated that he will concede to Mr Biden, prompting questions as to whether the current president will have to be removed from the White House.
