Fatal Shooting As Police Use Live Ammunition
Reports suggest that two people were fatally wounded yesterday after police used live fire to disperse UPND supporters that had gathered in solidarity with Hakainde Hichilema who had been called in for questioning.
The victims are understood to have been a male UPND supporter and a state prosecutor, who witnesses say had just gone across the National Prosecutions Office to buy a snack. According to UPND leader Mr Hichilema the victims were Joseph Kaunda and Nsama Nsama Chipuoka.
Commenting on the incident, Alliance for Community Action (ACA) Executive Director Laura Miti stated, “As he has been warned so often, Minister of Home Affairs, Stephen Kampyongo's belief in unrestrained state violence against citizens, has killed an innocent prosecutor and another citizen.”
“Now, we will be forced to listen to how multiple voices will explain away lives needlessly lost. I don't know how PF can't see that their desperation to stay in office is because the keep committing these crimes they fear to answer for. May the blood of the dead haunt you Stephen. Maybe, if you wake up in the night, screaming, you will listen,” she continued.
Mr Hichilema described it as a sad day for our country.
“Their demise is heartbreaking as they did not have to die in this manner,” he stated.
“The blood of the innocent souls you (PF) have killed today, will haunt you forever,” he continued as he sent his condolences to the families.
