HH Donates Hygiene Products To Covid-19 Fight

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has begun a nationwide distribution of hygiene products in support of efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

To date there have been 39 cases recorded in the country, with one fatality.

As Mr Hichilema coordinated the donation he stressed that Coronavirus is real and should be taken seriously.

“It is sad that the nation has recorded its first Coronavirus death. We have lost one of our own. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of the deceased,” he stated.

“Life is a gift from God. We cannot afford to lose it if we are able to protect a life,” he added.

The UPND leader spoke of the importance of working together.

“This is not time to point fingers at each other; it is time to come together in unity and fight Covid-19.”

HH said the contribution was the first among the many to be conducted across the country in the near future.

While the UPND President has often campaigned on the promise of economic management he stated that when it comes to health and lives then people must come first.

“There are those who are arguing that the economy comes first. I want to argue the opposite. The economy is meant for the people,” he stated.

Making his contribution of hand sanitizers, face masks and hygiene soaps Mr Hichilema stated, “We commend the willingness among members of society in adhering to strict hygiene practices but unfortunately most of our people are impeded by the limitations in resources, hence our decision to contribute especially to needy and vulnerable communities.”

“We need to adhere to strict health guidelines as provided by health authorities. It's a serious matter that requires concerted efforts and we call upon the corporate world and ordinary individuals to make their contributions towards this fight which cannot be left to the government or to any one individual or group of individuals only.”
