UNZA Becomes Covid-19 Quarantine Facility
The University of Zambia (UNZA) new residence is being established as a public quarantine facility for truck drivers following a directive from Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya.
While trade continues to ensure that Zambia has the supplies it needs during the pandemic, those entering the country are required to quarantine for a period of 14 days upon arrival.
Speaking on the move during a press briefing on Sunday Dr Chilufya stated, “We are working in conjunction with our bilateral partners to ensure that there is no disruption in the movement of goods and services. To this effect, truck drivers who are being admitted in the country are being screened at the border and those who are found to be asymptomatic, they are being entered in our tracking records and are being escorted to the points where they are delivering their goods and thereafter, are being taken into mandatory quarantine places.”
Dr Chilufya confirmed that as of Sunday government had receive 125 trucks from Livingstone, following which the drivers have been isolated. They were provided with an escort by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Minister stated that only a portion of UNZA is being used for this purposes and reassured that the area was barricaded with a secure entry to prevent wider transmission.
