PF Wants To Join Campaign To De-Register Political Parties
The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party is seeking to join a petition calling for the Constitutional Court to register all political parties that have not practiced proper democratic processes, including holding a convention.
PF Secretary General Davies Mwila has asked the Constitutional Court if the PF can join the petition as an interested party, arguing that the party might be affected by the outcome of the petition.
The United Party for National Development has already endorsed the petition.
The campaign was started by Livingstone Magistrate Benjamin Mwelwa who is seeking to deregister all parties that have not held proper conventions since 2016, as required under the constitution.
Mr Mwelwa has cited article 60, sub-article 2, clause D of the Republican Constitution as ground for deregistering political parties that do not conform to proper democratic procedure.
