Britain Has Not Cut Aid To Zambia, Says High Commissioner
The British High Commissioner to Zambia, Nicholas Woolley, says his government has not cut or in any way reduced aid to Zambia.
The statement comes after speculation about a speech by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in which he mentioned that far more aid was being sent to African countries such as Zambia, rather than European neighbours like Ukraine.
Mr Woolley explained that all the Prime Minister had announced was the merger of the UK Foreign Office with the Department for International Development, combining foreign policy and aid distribution into one decision-making body.
Speaking to ZNBC, the high commissioner clarified that the Prime Minister had not announced a cut or reduction of aid to Zambia.
He added that his government would continue to support Zambia by fostering its economy through programmes such as Development Assistance through Poverty Reduction.
The UK’s planned aid budget for Zambia in 2019/20 is £42 million.
