Kambwili Calls On Opposition To Unite Against Lungu And PF

National Democratic Congress Leader Chishimba Kambwili has called for a united opposition front in order to unseat President Lungu from office at next year’s elections.

Mr Kambwili’s rallying call came during a congratulatory statement to newly-elected Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera. Kambwili applauded President Chakwera for forming the Tonse alliance of opposition parties to achieve results through unity of purpose.

“I appeal to all the opposition political parties in Zambia to learn from Malawi’s case that unity of purpose bears results, and if you are disintegrated you will not achieve anything. This is why, we in the NDC and UPND have been serious about our alliance,” he said.

He insinuated that the opposition alliance would emulate the broad-base electoral tactics of the President Chakwera, adding “Tonse is the concepts we are going to apply”.

In February, the opposition alliance confirmed the appointment of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema as its presidential candidate in the 2021 general election. Discussions are still ongoing about his preferred running-mate.
