Parliament Thanks Students For Work On Youth Development Fund

Parliament has thanked the Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) for its significant contribution to a report on the implementation of the Youth Development Fund (YDF), which was adopted by the National Assembly on 26th June.

In a letter dated 8th July, the clerk of the National Assembly expressed gratitude for ZANASU’s submission on behalf of the parliamentary committee on youth, sport and child matters.

ZANASU is an umbrella body of students an their unions in Zambia. The organisation has partnered with the Norwegian Students and Academic International Fund (SAIH) and the Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) to allow students to meaningfully engage in causes that advance academic freedoms and ensure young Zambians access to quality education.

In response to parliament’s letter, ZANASU vice president Steven Kanyakula told the National Assembly that “ZANASU shall continue to ensure that Zambian students, at home and abroad, continue to exercise and defend their right to raise their voice in national matters.”

“In pursuit of this task, ZANASU is working towards decentralizing by establishing provincial committees of students whom your Committees can interact with in your national duty to legislate,” he added.
