Cornelius Mweetwa Refuses To Apologize For Calling Vice President Inonge Wina Disgraceful

Choma Central UPND Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa this morning refused to apologize to the Vice President for calling her disgraceful over the gassing incidents which affected the country early this year.

Mr Mweetwa who is the UPND Deputy spokesperson is said to have attacked Inonge Wina’s character calling her shallow and shameful over her insinuation that the people behind the gassing wanted to trigger regime change in Zambia.

When asked to apologise by speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini who ruled on a point of order raised by the Mandevu Member of Parliament Jean Kapata on whether Mr Mweetwa was in order, Mr Mweetwa said he was in order to describe the Vice President as shallow and shameful.

In his ruling, Dr Matibini said the Choma Central lawmaker was out of order to disrespect the Vice President when he featured on Diamond TV.

The speaker who admonished Mr Mweetwa said the sentiments issued by the lawmaker were demeaning, in contempt of the house and in breach of parliamentary privileges.

But Mr Mweetwa said asking him to apologise was like asking him to stop breathing because he had done nothing wrong by exercising his freedom of speech.

Mr Mweetwa said the Vice President is the one that should apologise for misleading the nation on the issue of gassing.

He later walked out of parliament escorted by opposition Members of Parliament.
