HH And Team Storm National Registration Office

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema led a team to storm the National Registration Office on Wednesday, demanding answers as to why National Registration Cards (NRCs) are being issued selectively.

Mr Hichilema has accused the department of issuing National Registration Cards in Patriotic Front strongholds, while ignoring those areas that favour the UPND electorally.

β€œThe department of National Registration has of late been issuing NRCs in perceived PF strongholds while people in other parts of the country who also need the same document are not being accorded a chance to do so,” he said.

The opposition leader observed that all senior NRO officers immediately went into hiding upon his arrival, for fear of being fired by the PF government if they attempted to provide his team with answers.

Mr Hichilema has since called on the PF government to desist from selectively issuing NRCs; adding that those who had already been granted the cards should use this privilege to unseat the PF from government.

Hichilema said the selective issuing of NRCs had been brought to his attention when crowds of people in the PF stronghold of Chiengi Constituency were give NRCs, while the same was not being done in the Southern, North-Western and Western Provinces. The UPND has called for the cards to be distributed in a uniform manner nationally.
