UPND Deputy Calls National Assembly Covid Test “Suspicious”

UPND Deputy National Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa has called the National Assembly’s Covid-19 test results “highly suspicious” and has demanded for a second round of tests to be carried out.

Mr Mweetwa cited the case of UPND MP Princess Kasune, who had tested negative under the National Assembly’s official testing system, but later was found to be positive for the virus when she asked a second medical opinion.

In Mr Mweetwa’s eyes, the Assembly’s official tests have thus been proved to be unreliable and now cast doubt on the validity of any previous results.

The UPND is now recommending that all parliamentarians look for a second test for the benefit of their own health and for the safety of their colleagues, who they may have unwittingly exposed to the virus.

Mr Mweetwa also responded the allegations made against the UPND by the Chief Government Whip, Brian Mundibile, in which he accused the UPND of celebrating the outbreak of Covid-19 in Zambia. Mr Mweetwa called the allegations “cheap” and declared them unfounded, as the UPND has too suffered in its membership due to the virus.

UPND Leader, Hakainde Hichilema has consistently called for greater social distancing measures and increased testing.
