“Kampyongo Proudly Planning Violence”, Writes Miti
Civil society activist Laura Miti has asked the PF if it is planning a bloodbath following comments from the Minister of Home Affairs Steven Kampyongo that government has bought military weapons to deal with those looking to cause anarchy next year.
“Minister of Home Affairs, Stephen Kampyongo, has finally admitted that government is arming itself against citizens,” Miti writes on social media.
“Like all tyrants tend to, he owns his ill-intent against Zambians arrogantly and unapologetically,” she continues.
Activist Sikaile Sikaile has also criticised the minister’s comments, describing them as “criminal, insensitive and a serious threat to the security of the country.”
In response to Kampyongo's comments Alliance for Community Action Executive Director Miti asked the PF whether it is planning a bloodbath.
"So all of you agree that to keep President Lungu in office, a president whose performance has been astoundingly poor, you are willing to physically harm Zambians?" she writes.
"You have all agreed that because life is so good, billions of dollars will buy heavy weaponry whose only purpose is to injure citizens if they exercise their right to peacefully protest against government wrong doing?"
"Do you honestly sleep peacefully at night, while essentially planning a bloodbath?”, Miti continues.
“If that is not your plan, (if Minister Kampyongo was lying when he, maybe, inadvertently confirmed this plan) then do tell us why the police and armed forces are being so heavily armed in this Zambia that has no external enemies?” Miti concludes.
Miti also described Kampyongo as a man “drunk with power.”
“So drunk with power is the man, he is sure he owns this Zambia and the people who put him in office."
"So he can take the money that would have put medicines in hospitals, bought COVID kits, paid bursaries for students, fixed rural feeder roads to purchasing heavy arms."
"Arms to ensure that, if the people who pay this Minister's salary, dare speak up against the corruption and anarchy the government he serves in has visited on a once beautiful country, they will be met with extreme state violence.”
Meanwhile, Sikaile has descried it as disturbing that those in office are mismanaging public resources while many remain in poverty.
