ECZ Sets Dates For Parliamentary And Ward By-Elections

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced the dates for two parliamentary by-elections and 12 local ward by-elections.

Voting for the Lukashya and Mwansabombwe Constituencies will take place on Wednesday 17th September.

By-elections in local wards will also take place on Wednesday 17th September. Of the 12 wards up for election, six are located in Copperbelt Province and the other six are in North Western Province.

The parliamentary by-elections were triggered by the deaths of the MPs Rodgers Mewa and Mwenya Mukonge.

Mr Mwewa died from Covid-19 on Tuesday 21st July. His passing prompted President Lungu to adjourn parliament sine die. It is expected to reopen on Friday 11th September.

The majority of the ward by-elections were brought about by the resignation of UPND councillors.
