VP Wina Tests Positive For Covid-19
Vice President Inonge Wina has tested positive for Covid-19, her office has announced.
The 80-year-old Mrs Wina is the latest high profile politician to test positive for the virus after Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo last month and Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya in May
Sources from Mrs Wina’s office have revealed that the vice president received her test results yesterday evening. She is said to be in a stable condition.
President Lungu has sent a team of doctors to her residence to begin treatment at home, rather than transporting her to a public isolation centre.
State House says that it is concerned for Mrs Wina’s life owing to her advanced age. Her office has since cancelled a scheduled trip to Western Province she was due to undertake today.
Last month, Mwansabombwe MP Rodger Mwewa died of Covid-19 at the age of just 49.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Zambia currently stands at 9,981, with 264 deaths.
