Covid-19 Must Not Derail Development Agenda, Says Lungu
President Lungu has told provincial ministers not to let the global Covid-19 pandemic interfere with their plans for national development.
Speaking to ministers yesterday, the president urged them not to take their feet of the pedals.
“You all know that, as Government, we are more than ever before called upon to improve the welfare of our people and to ensure equitable development across the 10 regions of our country.”
Mr Lungu reflected on the economic and social impact of the coronavirus pandemic, saying that it had exerted serious pressure on the government.
He therefore instructed all ministries, government departments and agencies to continue to enforce measures put in place to safeguard people’s health and lives.
He added that he expected ministers to employ innovative means of attracting investment to their provinces.
“As this is one way of safeguarding livelihoods, providing employment opportunities and ensuring continuity in economic activities which are a bedrock of national survival,” he explained.
