Chief Nkole Nfumu Begs Lungu For Violence-Free Election

Chief Nkole Nfumu of the Bemba people in Kasama district has urged President Lungu to ensure that the upcoming by-election in Lukashya is free of violence.

Speaking during President Lungu’s visit to the area, Chief Nkole Nfumu urged the president to spread a message of unity so that Zambia can continue to experience peaceful development.

It comes in the face of mounting political agitation in the lead up to the Lukashya and Mwanasabombwe by-elections on Thursday.

Last Tuesday, suspected PF cadres petrol bombed the Matero home of UPND trustee Peter Kalyata, injuring him and his wife.

President Lungu has told Chief Nkole Nfumu that police in Kasama are on high alert to ensure that peace is upheld during tomorrow’s vote.

The Lukashya by-election will see PF candidate George Chisanga face off against UPND contender Davies Mulenga and the MMD’s Christopher Kabwe.

The election was triggered following the death of independent MP Mwenya Mukonge in August.
