PF Wins Lukashya Seat Amid Cheating Accusations

The Patriotic Front (PF) has been accused of stealing votes in Lukashya after the party won the previously independent seat in yesterday’s by-election.

PF candidate George Chisanga defeated UPND challenger Mulenga Davis at the polls on Thursday, with 13,421 votes to Davis’ 2,684.

Mr Chisanga has received congratulations from leading PF figures, including Northern Province Minister Bwalya Chungu and Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo.

Mr Kampyongo urged the newly elected MP to hit the ground running, adding that there wasn’t much time until next year’s General Elections.

Mr Chisenga thanked President Lungu and the PF party for giving him the opportunity to run and promised he would not let them down.

Speaking after the results were announced, UPND Provincial Chairman Nathan Ilunga challenged the validity of the elections, saying “there were some tricks used by the ECZ, who connived with the ruling party to come up with this result”.

Mr Davies himself also accused the PF of ‘stealing’ the vote in Lukashya. He identified his popularity in Lukashya throughout the campaign as evidence that the PF must have rigged the vote.

“We don’t know where such votes came from. We don’t know where my colleague got the votes” he said.
