Felix Mutati Forms Political Party
Former Finance Minister Felix Mutati has set up his own political party named the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
The party, which is based in Lusaka, was registered with the Registrar of Societies on 8th November 2019 and has since been issued with a public certificate to legally contest elections.
In a statement released to reporters, the MDC’s media team said the party would shortly unveil its first manifesto, as well as details of its interim leadership and official premises.
Mr Mutati served as Minister of Finance under the PF government between 2016 and 2018, however he officially represented the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy party.
The news comes following an announcement last month that Mutati was planning to form an alliance with Democratic Party leader Harry Kalaba and Lusaka lawyer Bwalya Fube to contest the 2021 general election.
At the time Mr Kabala described the potential alliance as one of “mutual relationship” rather than merely ushering another party into office. At present it is unclear whether this relationship will exist between the Democratic Party and the newly formed MDC.
