HH Promises ‘Economic Revolution’

United Party for National Development Leader Hakainde Hichilema has promised an ‘economic revolution’ for Zambia if his party is given a mandate to form a government following elections on 12 August.

In a video shared to social media, Mr Hichilema pledged that Zambia would witness “the greatest economic recovery that the African continent has ever seen”.

In particular the opposition leader promised more jobs; greater support for the vulnerable in society, including the sick and elderly; and greater support for businesses to allow them to grow and flourish.

HH argued that it would be irresponsible to once more trust the Patriotic Front to govern Zambian, positing “You can’t ask those who destroyed the economy to fix it”.

He said that the people of Zambia had suffered enough and that it was time to “try change”.

Under the Patriotic Front government Zambia has become the only African country to default on its debts in 2020. Experts blame a lack of government transparency and poor financial management for Zambia’s persistent failure to pay back loans.
