HH Aides Charged Over Alleged NRC Fraud
Special assistants to UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, Anthony Bwalya and Mubita Nawa, have been officially arrested and charged with fraud after being found in possession of falsified National Registration Cards.
The pair have been arrested alongside fellow party officials Dorothy Mukutusha, Edger Maluba and Graham Halumamba. They are accused of having stolen 1,500 NRCs, valued at approximately K3,840.
The accused have been released on police bond and are scheduled to appear in court in Mansa on February 15.
Bwalya and Nawa were previously served with a ‘warn and caution’ for theft and fraud in October 2020 after an appearance on Muvi TV Assignment programme in which they produced a pile of National Registration Cards (NRC) that they alleged had been irregularly issued.
The pair were initially detained without charge on Monday, leading Mr Hichilema to write on Facebook: “We stand in total solidarity with our members Anthony Bwalya and Mubita Nawa who have been detained at Lusaka's Woodlands Police station without any charge laid against them.”
