Kampyongo: Dual Citizenship Applications Overwhelming
Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has said the number of Zambians living in South Africa who have applied to have their Zambian citizenship restored has been ‘overwhelming’, adding that government is delighted with the response.
Speaking in Johannesburg, Mr Kampyongo explained that South Africa’s decision to allow dual citizenship had prompted many native Zambians to file new applications to restore their citizenship.
The home affairs minister said he was satisfied with the successful collaboration among stakeholders which was facilitating the timely processing of applications. He added that further guidelines would soon be issued through Zambia’s overseas embassies.
He said that Zambia is committed to ensuring a legitimate civil registration project, as well as facilitating the movement of migrants across the SADC in a well-managed legal framework.
Zambians living in South Africa have been advised to keep their documentation up to date in order to easily access consular services when necessary.
