PF Warned Against Removing HH From Ballot

A consortium of United Party for National Development (UPND) youths from across the country told journalists in Lusaka yesterday that plans to arrest UPND leader Mr Hichilema by the PF would be met with full force.

UPND Youth Chairperson for Eastern Province, Lyson Nyirenda, mentioned that the UPND are aware of manoeuvres to try and implicate Hichilema so that he is unable to file his nomination papers in May. He also threatened that any deliberate manoeuvre to ensure HH is not on the August ballot paper will result in no elections in Zambia.

Lyson took the consortium as his chance to also comment on the poor road network within his area, in spite of the Province being home to the Infrastructure Development Minister.

Anderson Banda and Nelson Kalembwe, Lusaka and Luapula Province UPND Youth Chairpersons, added that the UPND are closely monitoring the schemes of the PF to prevent Hichilema on the 2021 ballot, with any arrest of HH on flimsy grounds likely to lead to widespread chaos in the country.

“Not handling the electoral process properly has the potential to bleed anarchy… We are aware that the continued holding of the four officials is aimed at accusing HH so that he is barred from contesting the forthcoming polls” added Central UPND Youth Chairperson Milner Mwanakampwe.

The UPND finished their statement to the press in a call to the PF leadership in which they asked for them not to “go for” HH if they want their country to be safe.
