UPND Alliance Grows Ahead Of Campaign Launch
This weekend the UPND Alliance and its presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema (HH) welcomed more parties to its growing ranks ahead of the start of campaigns.
Felix Mutati and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Ernest Mwansa and the Zambia Empowerment and Development (ZED) party, Kelvin Bwalya Fube and the Zambia Shall Prosper Movement and Kaluba Simueymba and the Movement for Change and Equality have all publicly committed to working together with the UPND Alliance in a bid to deliver change in the upcoming August 12 elections.
The Alliance already contains representative of the National Democratic Party and the Alliance for Democracy and Development.
In welcoming the Alliance’s latest members HH stressed the importance of unity and the rejection of tribalism. He also spoke out against campaigns of disinformation that are being run in an attempt to smear his reputation.
“When we unite, we can move mountains. Come 12 August this year, all those dividing us will be put 'ku wire.' We say no to division; those who are dividing us can't defeat us in the ballot and through the ballot, we can recover that which this country has lost; decency, unity and hope,” HH stated.
“As we go into this election, unity of purpose and people power are key. No one can defeat People Power. Unity of purpose is a truism, it worked before and it will work on 12 August as we come together to deliver this country,” he continued.
“We should habour no fear of detention. Those before us were arrested for us to get independence. In the same manner, let's all be strong and remain focussed. What matters is our country and nothing will deter us from serving the people of Zambia,” the UPND Alliance leader concluded.
