More UPND Billboards Destroyed
The United Party for National Development (UPND) has shared yet more photos of its defaced campaign billboards on social media.
The latest image was shared by UPND Alliance presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema, along with the following quote: “They have continued vandalising our campaign material like they have done with our country. Don't let them vandalise your resolve to change for a better Zambia.”
HH has previously urged his supporters not to retaliate, telling them “This is the kind of lawlessness and primitiveness we have to root out in this country.”
Last month alleged PF cadres were caught on camera attacking a printing company that is making T-shirts for the UPND campaign. The cadres allegedly burned the shirts claiming that they could not be stopped as they enjoyed the protection of the PF leadership.
While President Lungu has called for peaceful campaigns, some have questioned his sincerity in light of some of the company he keeps. Alliance for Community Action Executive Director Laura Miti recently questioned the role of Jay Jay, who is alleged to have beaten police officers, but is campaigning for the President’s re-election in Eastern Province.
“To put it plainly, the President needs cadre violence and lawlessness or else he would end it. In other words, if, today, President Lungu said I have had enough of this, those armoured vehicles and war equipment Minister Kampyongo bought for use against ordinary citizens would be brought to bear against cadre lawlessness. Every last cadre would be disarmed and arrested. And that would be the end of that,” Miti stated.
“Zambia will largely return to normal and many people be able to hustle for a living, if only we get rid of PF thugs and their bullying of private citizens,” Miti advised.
