HH Appeals To Uniformed Officers Following Incident
UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has reached out to uniformed officers following events this weekend in which police blocked the opposition party leader as he travelled to Church.
The UPND leader has offered uniformed officers better conditions of service and said he recognised that officers are currently working under very difficult circumstances.
According to the UPND, the presidential candidate’s vehicle was shot at on Sunday using dangerous weapons including tear gas canisters.
“We are aware that our professional men and women in uniform are working under very difficult circumstances but they have our word and that is better conditions of service, dignity and respect for human rights including theirs,” Hichilema wrote following the incident.
HH encouraged voters to continue to campaign for change ahead of the August elections.
"Fellow citizens. It is time and so go out there and campaign for change. Come August, vote for Change," he stated.
Meanwhile, UPND Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Bwalya has urged he police to remain professional and reminded President Lungu as his responsibility in ensuring law and order as the sitting Head of State.
“The PF have continued to enjoy uninterrupted conduct of political party activities including rallies and roadshows as has been seen and noted in Kanchibiya, Kabushi, Kamfisa, Kanyama and many other jurisdictions across the country,” Bwalya also writes.
