President Urged To Respect Constitutional Mandate Limit
Africa Rising has urged leaders across Africa not to over-step their two-term limit in office as elections in Zambia draw ever closer.
In a bid to prevent presidents across Africa to step outside their two-term limit, Africa Rising issued a statement which said that presidents “should not serve beyond their second term in office.”
The organisation is a Pan-African movement of people and organisations who work together for peace, justice and dignity. Their mission aims to ensure that politicians across Africa stick to constitutional laws, just as their citizens are expected to.
“Any elected official is a representative of the people, as such, they should be responsive to the demands of those whom they represent,” the statement added.
The statement followed the recent Second West African Summit for Democracy and Good Governance.
“Let us use the power of our collective voices to call on our leaders, and demand that their actions and authorities are not used for selfish aims, but that they are used to benefit the entire citizenry,” the statement finished.
Although the movement has already carried out a solidarity mission in Zambia, President Edgar Lungu is still determined to act against the constitution which states that a president may only serve in office twice. This is a feat that President Lungu has already achieved.
