Kaunda Buried At State Site Against His Wishes
Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s founding president, has been laid to rest at Embassy Park, the country’s presidential burial site.
His burial follows the High Court’s decision to dismiss a challenge by one of Dr Kaunda’s sons, Kaweche Kaunda, which aimed to grant his final wish to be buried next to his wife Betty.
While the burial was underway the ruling was decided by High Court Judge Wilfred Muma who said that there was no clear arguable case made by the applicant for judicial review.
Speaking on the matter, Muma said that it is “one case which must demonstrate that public interest overrides personal interest.”
To add insult to injury, the official tombstone of Dr Kaunda was engraved with the wrong date of birth by the PF government.
