TIZ Urge Eligible Voters To Turn Out In Large Numbers, Scrutinise Manifestos Ahead Of August 12
Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) have encouraged voters to turn out in large numbers when polls open tomorrow for the 2021 general elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, the organisation’s executive director Maurice Nyambe said that voters should scrutinise party manifestos before going out to vote in large numbers, to ensure that the right choice is made.
“As the nation heads to the polls…TIZ would like to remind voters, particularly the undecided ones, of the importance of scrutinising political party manifestos in order to make informed decisions on who to vote for,” the statement opened.
The United Party for National Development have focused their manifesto around creating jobs and putting food on the plates of Zambians, following a rise in inflation over the last few years. The ruling Patriotic Front are instead hoping that Zambians will see the ‘development’ it has carried out over the last few years. In spite of this, much of the infrastructure developed, such as new airports, is of no use to starving Zambians. Subsequently their priorities appear confused.
Nyambe further called on the Zambian population to ensure to cast their votes if they are registered to do so.
“TIZ wishes to remind citizens that it is their civic duty and responsibility to take part in the electoral process by exercising their right to vote. The exercise of this is a fundamental aspect of our governance and will enable citizens to contribute to the growth of our democracy…It is our hope that all eligible voters across the breadth and length of Zambia will turn out in large number to exercise that power [to vote]” the statement closed.
