International Leaders To Attend Inauguration Of HH
Several African leaders and international representatives from around the world are due to attend the inauguration of president-elect Hakainde Hichilema on 24th August at the Heroes Stadium.
A statement released by Malawi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday announced that President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is scheduled to travel to Zambia to attend the inauguration of Mr Hichilema as Zambia’s seventh President.
Alongside President Dr Lazarus, several other African leaders are due to arrive in Lusaka ahead of the ceremony. Such individuals include the President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi as well as President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Outside of Africa, President Biden of the United States of America has also announced a delegation who will attend the event on Tuesday. The press statement, released by the White House, stated that “Ms. Enoh T. Ebong, Acting Director of the United States Trade and Development Agency, will lead the delegation.”
The statement continued to note that Mr. David J. Young, Chargé d’Affaires, as interim, U.S. Embassy Lusaka as well as Ms. Dana L. Banks, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Africa will be attending the event.
The day has also been declared a public holiday by President Edgar Lungu.
