Nalumango Attacked By PF Cadres And Arrested By Police
UPND Alliance Vice President Mutale Nalumango has reportedly been attacked by Patriotic Front cadres while on the campaign trail in Nchelenge District.
According to a statement from the party’s media liaison, Emmanuel Samapimbi, Nalumango’s convoy was descended on this afternoon by PF cadres carrying “all manner of weapons”. The thugs were aided in their attack by members of the police service.
Latest reports say the vice president is currently being detained at Nchelenge police station, where several injured UPND members have also been brought in.
Ms. Nalumango was out campaigning in Luapula Province today, where she has been repeatedly harassed by police. Yesterday, footage arose depicting police officers in Chiengi insulting the vice president and her team before roughing up UPND supporters. There were also multiple reports that officers fired live ammunition at the opposition convoy.
Prior to being arrested, Nalumango wrote a Facebook post criticising a police officer for insulting while her on the road.
“Son there was no need of insulting a woman like me who is old as your mother and as if it wasn’t enough, you went ahead to fire two gun shots at us,” she posted.
