Mumba Rejects Withdrawal Rumours
Nevers Mumba this morning addressed media and the nation via a press conference. During the conference he attacked the recent behaviour of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), claiming that today it lacks independence.
He addressed rumours that have been circulating that he had been paid US$1 million in order to withdraw from the presidential race so that the PF can delay elections and the prospect of an opposition victory.
Dr Mumba said that he would never withdraw for money and that while he regretted the fact that there are many injustices in the current election period he has decided to put his individual rights aside and continue.
The opposition politician suggested that he may petition the result should the PF be declared the winners of Thursday’s presidential poll on the basis that the PF has allegedly been selling lies that he is in an alliance with them as they tour the country. Dr Mumba claims that these lies are daylight robbery.
Ahead of the vote Dr Mumba counselled that if voters are going to vote PF, they have to have a reason. He pointed to the PF’s poor track record on the economy over the past 10 years, showing how trends have been in the wrong direction.
“MMD left inflation at an average of 7%, single digits. Today it is at 17%”, he stated.
“They have increased mealie meal prices and they are corrupt,” Dr Mumba continued.
“If you are going to vote PF you better have a good reason for your children because one day they will ask you why?” he counselled those listening.
During the conference Dr Mumba called on media to start asking the important questions of the PF and President Lungu, for example asking them “how did you borrow so much money and how are you going it pay it back?”
The opposition leader concluded his conference by calling on voters to vote with their conscience on August 12.
